The Auxiliary has a National organization consisting of the National Officers and Committees appointed by the National President.

Departments are organized in many States with several Auxiliaries in most Departments. The Auxiliary has local Auxiliaries and Departments located in California, Colorado, Connecticut., Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland - Delaware Massachusetts, Michigan, Missiouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin. Each Department also holds an annual Encampment to elect their State officers and delegates to the National Encampment. The annual National Encampment of the Auxiliary is held in conjunction with the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Encampment.

A Member-at-Large category exists for those persons residing in States where no Auxiliary is functioning or who prefer not to affiliate with an Auxiliary at the time of joining.
